Join Our Dedicated Volunteer Corps Across Bourbonnais and Forez

Volunteering with B&F Entre Bourbonnais et Forez offers a rewarding opportunity to preserve our common cultural heritage, learn traditional architectural skills, and build meaningful relationships across our rural communities. We welcome individuals of all backgrounds, abilities, and experience levels.

Statutory Non-Profit Disclosure: B&F Entre Bourbonnais et Forez is a 100% non-profit association governed by the Law of 1901. Volunteer participation is entirely voluntary and unpaid. All membership fees and dues are fully reinvested in the association's public interest missions, ensuring comprehensive insurance coverage, safety equipment, and educational materials for all active volunteers.

Volunteer Opportunities Tailored to Your Talents and Availability

Our association relies entirely on the generosity, passion, and energy of volunteer citizens. Whether you have several hours a month to dedicate to transcribing historical records from home, or wish to spend full Saturdays outdoors working on stone preservation projects, your contribution directly advances public interest heritage preservation throughout the region.

Practical Fieldwork

Masonry & Landscape Maintenance

Join our outdoor restoration team. Tasks include clearing invasive vegetation around historic washhouses, repairing dry-stone terrace walls, repointing non-structural stone joints with lime mortar, and assisting in the physical maintenance of rural historical walking trails. All tools, safety gear, and instructional training are provided by the association.

Oral History & Media

Linguistic Recording & Audio Archiving

Assist our oral history team in conducting acoustic recordings with elder native speakers of Bourbonnais and Forez regional dialects. Volunteers operate digital audio recorders, catalog metadata, conduct gentle biographical interviews, and assist with audio cleanup and digital archiving protocols.

Historical Research

Paleography & Archival Transcription

Collaborate with our research circle to decipher and transcribe digitized historical documents, including seventeenth-century parish rolls, land registries, and municipal council minutes. Training in reading archaic cursive hands is provided by experienced members. Work can be conducted collaboratively or remotely.

Public Education

School Outreach & Community Assemblies

Help coordinate our monthly public conferences, seasonal exhibitions, and school educational workshops. Responsibilities include welcoming attendees, assisting with multimedia equipment, guiding student groups during heritage discovery walks, and distributing free pedagogical booklets.

Our Volunteer Commitment and Support Framework

At B&F Entre Bourbonnais et Forez, we view volunteering as an enriching partnership. We are committed to ensuring that every volunteer feels valued, safe, supported, and intellectually stimulated. When you volunteer with our association, you benefit from:

  • Comprehensive Liability Insurance: All registered volunteers are fully covered by the association's comprehensive civil liability and personal accident insurance policy during all official activities and field missions.
  • Hands-on Technical Training: Free orientation sessions covering traditional lime mortar mixing, stone cutting safety, oral history ethics, and digital archive preservation methods.
  • Flexible Time Commitments: No minimum mandatory hours. Participate according to your personal schedule, whether once a week, once a month, or during seasonal weekend preservation campaigns.
  • Warm Intergenerational Community: Enjoy friendly, supportive social connections with fellow citizens who share your passion for regional history and rural preservation.

What Skills and Background Are Needed?

The most important qualification is a sincere interest in regional heritage and community life. We do not require academic degrees in history or professional credentials in stone masonry. We need individuals with curious minds, a willingness to listen to elders, enthusiasm for working alongside others, and a commitment to democratic, non-commercial public service.
